Belgium — 2008-02-05 — Meeting in Saalfelden, Austria, from 13-14 February, experts from Europe, Asia, and the U.S. will discuss environmentally friendly refrigerants and their development progress. As in recent years, the use of CO2 (R744) will play a key role in presentations from scientists, public authorities, and the industry. More specifically, the 150 participants gathering at the annual meeting of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) will discuss legal, environmental, safety and performance issues of R744. Besides the natural refrigerant already chosen by German carmakers for next-generation air conditioning systems, presentations will also evaluate chemical alternatives.

Interventions regarding CO2 in Mobile Air Conditioning will cover:
• Proposal for Efficient Characterization of R744 Compressor Control Valves (Dr. Axel Müller, Thomas Magnete TU Braunschweig / TLK Thermo)
• Freudenberg Seals for Future Mobile Air Conditioning (Dr. Ulrich K. Frenzel, Freudenberg Systems)
• Sensata's Pressure and Temperature Sensor for R744 AC Applications: A Sensor that Makes Sense (Renske Eissens, Sensata)
• A Decade of Hose Development for R744 - From First Prototypes to Serial Applications (Dr. Carlo Burkhardt, Witzenmann)
• Application and Control of R744 Compressors (Dr. Roman Heckt, Visteon)
• R744 HVAC - Challenges for Coaches and City Bus Applications (Martin Rindsfüßer, Spheros)
• Status and Potential of CO2 as a Refrigerant in Stationary Applications (Jürgen Süss, Danfoss)
• R744 Evaporator Requirements (Christoph Walter, Behr)
High Efficiency R744 Compressor Development for Vehicle (Geon Ho Lee, Dowoon)
• Assembly Lines for R744 MAC Applications (Mike Eismann, Contitech Kühner)
• A Combined Pressure and Temperature Sensor without External Temperature Probe (Karl-Alexander Kast, Kavliko)
• Sealing Solutions for CO2 applications (Thierry Travers, Le Joint Francais)

Background
Since 2002, the VDA Alternative Refrigerant Winter Meeting has provided a platform to discuss latest developments regarding Mobile Air Conditioning. The event is held under the patronage of the VDA (Verband der Automobilindustrie), with Obrist Engineering GmbH being the main organizer. The number of participants is limited to 150.
