New Service Opportunity for A/C Shops: Solution for Onboard Health Hazards

Mississauga, ON Canada — Feb 21, 2008 — Harmful allergens are living and thriving inside the ventilation system and passenger cabin of almost every vehicle on the road. The most common micro-organism found is mold & mildew that regularly release spores into the cabin air.  Mold spores can cause a wide range of health problems depending on overall health, age and the amount of time an exposed person spends in the car. Symptoms can range from eye, nose & throat irritation, runny nose, sinus congestion, headaches, fatigue, increased chance of asthma attacks and other serious allergic reactions.
MiST™ targets the health of the driver and occupants.
The problem is increasing due to smaller, more efficient HVAC components. HVAC systems trap moisture and create a damp, dark environment highly conducive to mold and mildew growth.  Cabin air filters (CAF) are prevalent in vehicles but are ineffective against the harmful micro-organisms living inside the HVAC and passenger cabin. OEMs understand CAFs alone are not enough to deal with the hazards found in cabin air.  Technologies such as Valeo’s ionizer, PlasmaCluster™ are finding their way into models from Nissan and Toyota to deal with this problem.

There are a number of treatments on the market using various solutions and delivery methods such as aerosols to try to deal with this persistent problem. The newest and most effective product available to the automotive market is the MiST™ In-Car Air Quality Service.

MiST™ is a revolutionary concept for the automotive repair shop. For the first time, it’s not about repairing the vehicle; MiST™ targets the health of the driver and occupants.

Developed by UView, a company specializing in cooling systems, MiST™is a fully automated 12V portable unit. It doesn’t require a bay and takes only 15 minutes to run. Micro-droplets of a specially formulated solution penetrate and reach the entire ventilation system including the evaporator, heater core, air ducts and passenger compartment surfaces. The MiST™ service combined with a cabin air filter replacement is a complete solution to restore in-car air quality.

UView recommends that the service be offered to consumers at a cost between $39 to $59 per service. Working on 60 percent (plus) profit margins, the return on investment for the MiST machine can be as soon a 7 services. The ease-of-use and sales support material available including posters, consumers cards, counter easels and mirror hangers make MiST™an easy service for any shop to get up and running.

Consumers want and will pay for healthier air inside their vehicles. Shops need to realize by not discussing the problem and offering solutions for restoring in-car air quality, money is being left on the table.
