Toyota Industries to accelerate CO2 compressors development

Belgium — 2007-10-26 — Toyota Industries presented its latest innovations in automotive technology at a press conference on 25 October, at the occasion of the Tokyo Motor Show 2007. Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) Technology was a key feature of the company’s presentation.

CO2 Compressor Development
In its press conference, the company referred to EU legislation banning MAC systems based on the current refrigerant, HFC-134a, and the subsequent decision by the German Automotive Industry Association VDA to adopt the natural refrigerant CO2 (R744) as a substitute. In this context, Toyota Industries announced that it "will accelerate the development of its CO2 Refrigerant Compressor to bring it to the market".

Moreover, the company is displaying its CO2 compressor model at their stand in the Tokyo exhibition. This technology was also mentioned as one example of environmental technologies that could provide a competitive advantage to stay ahead of the competition. The company thus expects to strengthen its leading market position worldwide.

Toyota Industries, part of the Toyota group of companies, is a leader in automotive technology, and frontrunner in the development of environmentally friendly solutions. By 2004, the total number of car air-conditioning compressors produced by the company reached 200 million units. At the Tokyo Motor Show 2007, Toyota Industries is also showcasing a Power Compressor installed in hybrid cars, in Lexus models, and Fixed Displacement Compressor and Continuous Variable Displacement Compressor used in ordinary cars.

Background
The 40th edition of Tokyo Motor Show 2007 will be opened to the public from 27 October to the 11th November. During the press days, held on 23 and 24 October, leading Japanese and international companies, such as Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Audi or Denso, advanced their latest innovations for the automotive market.
