Belgium — 2008-02-15 — Anyone expecting a clear decision about a global refrigerant solution for next-generation car air conditioning at the VDA Winter Meeting 2008, would probably be disappointed. Presentations from car manufacturers, suppliers, scientists, and public authorities from the EU, the US, and Japan made clear that the choice of refrigerant three years before an approaching EU deadline is still a field of controversial discussions.

The urgency to decide soon was, however, confirmed by the high number of applications that the German Car Manufacturers Association VDA (Verband der Automobilindustrie) had received for its 7th annual Winter Meeting on alternative refrigerants. Over 270 applications from all around the world, including from China and India, had reached the organizing committee, for only 170 available places to discuss latest policy and technical updates for Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC).
